Social Service Program

Insight, Exposure and Understanding:
Building an Academic and Practical Foundation for Learning

The Social Service associate degree program is designed to prepare students for diverse employment opportunities and to provide a foundation for further academic pursuit. The thrust of the Social Service program is to provide opportunities for students to gain insight into a myriad of social arenas. Opportunities are made possible through exposing students to: a) a variety of experiences, b) selected texts, literature and videos, c) guest speakers and in-class experiential learning activities and d) a practicum (120 hours per semester) that places students with service delivery agencies and organizations providing both direct and indirect services to client populations.

Social Service Career Opportunities

Employment for program graduates can be found in numerous settings including but not limited to the following:
  • mental health facilities
  • corrections facilities
  • group homes and halfway houses
  • day treatment programs
  • residential treatment centers

Students may enroll in the Social service Program on either a full-time or part-time basis. They can begin the program any semester.
