Surgical Technology Program

Welcome! The MCC Surgical Technology program is a two-year associate degree program. Graduates of the program are trained to handle the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during a surgical procedure. The program combines course work in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and operating procedures with a supervised clinical experience.

Working under the supervision of a surgeon, surgical technologists assist the surgical team in delivering patient care before, during and after surgery. The role of the surgical technologist is focused on preparing and maintaining the operating room to prevent infection, setting up supplies and equipment, anticipating the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and prepping the patient. The Surgical Technology program at MCC is accredited and graduates of the program are eligible to take the nationally administered certifying examination and earn the designation of certified surgical technologist (CST).
