Stephen Cassano was elected to Manchester Board of Selectmen.

Bob Chudy is the interim executive director of the Department of International Services and Programs at the University of Connecticut. He recently received the George Commentator Award from the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs: Association of International Educators and the Multi-cultural and International Affairs Lifetime achievement award from the University of Connecticut.     (posted Fall 2008)

Barbara Bernacki is currently training medical personnel, civilian and military, on electronic medical records. 100% travel to doctors and nurses military treatment facilities worldwide. The contract covers military services under Tricare-Air Force, Army, and Navy.

William Wardrop has been semi-retired since June 2005.  He has taken cruises to Bermuda and the Balkans.  Countries visited include Estonia, Russia, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

1971

Joan Carboni is working as a principal scientist at Bristol Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ in the Department of Oncology Drug Discovery and lives in Bucks County, PA.   Her major focus is to identify novel cancer therapies.  Her highest degree is a Ph.D., which was obtained in 1984.

Edward Firestone continued his education, graduating from UConn in 1972 with a degree in Accounting.  He married Lynn Macklen in 1973 and has three children.  Ed has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Unfinished Furniture Association.  The Award was presented at the UFA 2007 Real Wood Furniture Finished Your Way® Trade Show, held recently in Columbus, OH.  He owns Pinewood Furniture.

Linda Lazaroff has moved to Tunbridge, VT where she and her husband have built a new retirement home.  During her retirement, Linda has been very active with the Civic Club and the Historical Society.  She is also performing with the Mountain House Cloggers, Everybody Wins! mentoring program at the Tunbridge Central School, Tunbridge Church, and Tunbridge library.

Susan Gerr, potter and owner of Birch Mountain Pottery in Tolland since 1985, recently had one of her pieces accepted into the 17th annual National Ceramics Competition at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, San Angelo, Texas.  She exhibits regionally and nationally. Gerr teaches at her studio, UConn’s Community School of the Arts, in area schools, and volunteers at The Hole in The Wall Gang Camp in Ashford. She is regular contributor to FoodShare’s Empty Bowls Project, annually hosted on the MCC campus in conjunction with the Craft Fair.

Richard MacDonald earned a B.A. at Colorado College in 1976 and a law degree from Willamette University in 1979.  Since 1980, he has been practicing law in Lancaster, PA.  He and his wife, Barbara (Breighner) ‘74 have raised two children, Miles and Morgan.    

1975

Mary Blood Udice has been married to husband Dennis since 1986 and has two wonderful children, Laura and Michael. They currently reside in Newington.

They have traveled to Bermuda, Hilton Head Island, Florida, and several other trips up and down the East coast. Since 1987, Mary has been licensed as a Property/Casualty insurance agent for the state of Connecticut and is currently employed by the Newington Board of Education as a Special Education Assister. She is an advocate for children with disabilities. Her volunteer activities include: Chairperson of the Accessible Playground Advisory Committee, Newington's Commissioner on the Board of Parks and Recreation, member of the Newington Democratic Town Committee, and Girl Scout Leader for the last 8 years.

Thomas Hart is a commander with the South Windsor Police Department.  He has earned a B.S. from Charter Oak College, and a M.S. from Western New England College.  Thomas is a graduate of the FBI Academy.

1978

Bill Vayda has continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Western New England College (1982) and a Master of Science Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford (1988). He currently is a Manager at UnitedHealth Group in Hartford. In 1995, he was elected to the Enfield Town Council and in 2001 he was elected Mayor of Enfield. He is currently retired from politics. He is married with two children and continues to live in Enfield.

Irving Goldin celebrated his 41st anniversary with his wife, Barbara.  The couple lives in Vernon and have two grown children.  Their daughter has a son, with another child on the way.  He enjoys visiting Cape Cod with his family.  Irving is retired from the USPS, after 33 years of service.

Ahmed Hamdy Eissa lives in Manchester with his wife Linda Apisso and has one daughter, Tracy. He has continued his education, earning a M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He has worked for several companies including Aetna, Inc., Manchester Memorial Hospital, and CIGNA Corporation. He currently works at STR. Last summer, he took a long and exiting trip to Egypt with his wife.

Jamie Morton now lives in Davis, CA with his wife.  He is a Clinical Counselor at a homeless shelter and family housing program.  He is also a computer doctor on the side.  He completed his B.S. in Business at the University of Connecticut in 1981 and a Masters in Counseling at New Hampshire College in 1987.  He spends his free time skiing, rollerblading, traveling, and practicing Bikram yoga.

Patricia Ramondetta earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and a master’s of education degree from Springfield College.  Patricia is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.  She has traveled to England, Italy, Switzerland, Lake Tahoe, Seattle, Texas, and has taken other train trips within the U.S.  She is married to Louis Ramondetta ’92.  The couple have three grandchildren.

Marion Osman has retired after working for Hartford Public School system for 25 years.  She has enjoyed travelling to Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Canada, among others.  Soon, she will begin working in the Savannah Public School system in Georgia.

Barbara Barrett enjoys her homes in Las Vegas, Coventry, and Prince Edward Island, Canada.  Recently she has earned a certificate in Gerontology from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  After years of being semi-retired and working as a substitute teacher in CA and NV and working at Las Vegas "events", she is now totally retired.  She and her husband have bought an RV and are seeing the country.

1984

Mary Dorris received a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Theological Seminary in 1993. She served First Baptist in Tolland, as Minister of Music and Education, then moved to Mississippi, serving Becker Baptist until her husband became disabled with Alzheimer's disease. Out of that struggle was born First Friends, a non-profit Alzheimer's respite center manned by volunteers and financed through donations and United Way. It has been in existence five years--still going strong. She lost her husband in 2005.

Laraine Baker has retired from State service.  She worked for the Office of the Attorney General for a total of 36½ years; 22 of them as a Paralegal Specialist.  She now lives in Ocala, FL.

Janet Columbia received a masters degree from Eastern Connecticut State University.  She has received a certification in SASI, a student information system.  She loves to travel and has been to many places in the Caribbean, as well as Hawaii, Alaska, Bermuda, Italy, Croatia, France, and Barcelona.  She is married with one daughter.  In her spare time, Janet loves to read and tend her garden.

Representative Claire Janowski has been re-elected for a 5th term in the House of Representatives, representing the 56th District of Vernon and Rockville.  The new speaker also reappointed her as House Chair of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee as well as to the Higher Education/Workforce Development and Transportation Committees.       (posted Sprinted 2009)

Representative Claire Janowski completed her Bachelor of Science at Trinity College in 1988, graduating with Honors in General Scholarship and Honors in Psychology. She is currently serving a third term at the Connecticut General Assembly as Vernon's State Representive for the 56th District. Rep. Claire Janowski is the House Chair of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee and a member of the legislative Transportation and General Law Committees. At the national level, Janowski also serves as Connecticut's representative on the Transportation Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the Economics Committee of the Council of State Governments, Eastern Region (CSG). Rep. Janowski was first elected to serve on the General Assembly in 2001. She was appointed Assistant Majority Leader in 2003 and has served on the Public Health, Commerce, Banks and Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committees. She enjoys working in state government and is the recipient of the 2003 MCC Distinguished Alumni Award.

Patricia Stark continues to work in Therapeutic Recreation, in both geriatric and psychiatric facilities.  Additionally, she enjoys teaching religious education at the Unitarian Society in New Haven.  She resides in Wallingford with her husband Bill.  She has four children and one granddaughter.  She is also part owner of Stark Enterprises, a snow plowing and landscaping business. Her interests and hobbies involve camping, hiking, reading, and painting.

Florence Sheils has been appointed MCC’s Director of the Center for Student Development.  She has worked at MCC for 11 years.  Florence graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Political Science and has a M.A. in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.  She has been involved in various aspects of the community, including serving as a board member for the Julie Education Center and the Trust House Adult Education Advisory Committee in Hartford.  She also served as a Student Trustee on the Board of Trustees of Connecticut Community-Technical Colleges from 1992 to1994.

Theresa Carllo had a baby girl on February 10 (8 lbs, 1 oz.; 20 1/2”).  She was named Anna Mackenzie after Theresa grandmother.  This is her first child and she is a stay-at-home mom. Terry is also going back to school at Westfield State.

Marie Bedor graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2002, having earned a Bachelor of General Studies. She majored in English and minored in Business. She continues to work at the same law firm that she was at when she graduated from MCC.

David Chatzky continued his education, earning a master of science degree in Counseling and Student Development from Central Connecticut State University.  He is teaching computer classes for a non-profit in Hartford.  David won 4th place in a calendar contest and his photo was published in the calendar.  He has traveled to Kosovo, where he coached professional basketball and explored European cultures.

She also received a Post Graduate degree in Forensic Social Work: Socio-Legal Practice. She is currently a psychotherapist for the Genesis Center and a Reiki Practitioner in Vernon. She married Kenneth Routhier on 7/10/05.

Christine D. Trutnau has pursued a career in the Therapeutic Recreation field. Recently, she has started her first Supervisor position and manages a small Recreation Department. Throughout the years, she's continued to take classes for more credits and would like to pursue a degree in Nursing. She has traveled to Bermuda, Chicago, Nevada, Washington State and the Oregon Coast. She lives in Wallingford, however has worked in the Derby, Stratford, and New Haven. Christine has also taken some photography classes and occasionally submits her photos into fairs and contests. Currently she is single with no children.

Erin Elizabeth Hurley married Timothy Schilling on July 1, 2006 at St. Thomas Villa in St. Thomas, USVI, while on a Caribbean cruise.  She is employed by the Connecticut Air National Guard.     (posted Fall 2006)

Cheryl LeDoux teaches 6th grade at a private Catholic middle school in Browning, MT on the Blackfeet Indian reservation.  She is also the cross country and volleyball coach.  Cheryl has also taken on the role of lead organizer for school fund raisers, as they are a non-profit, self-supporting organization.

Chorlette Harvey has continued her education at University of Connecticut, where she is in the general studies program.  She is completing her degree online since has moved to New York, working as a legal secretary for a top law firm.  Chorlette is currently studying for the LSAT and is planning to apply to law school in 2009, where she plans to work on a dual degree program—a master’s degree in International Affairs and a JD.  She hopes to get a job with the United Nations or another international organization.

Susan Howard graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2007, earning a B.A. in Psychology.  Recently, she was promoted to an Employment/Education Coordinator for Community Enterprise, Inc., a non profit that provides supported education programs in culinary and business office technology with MCC.  She now splits her time between the Supported Education Program at MCC and a new program off-campus. The new program--The Transition Academy--will provide living skills, job skills and support for young adults with developmental disabilities.

Virginia Monteiro is working for Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate Campaign Headquarters.  She has completed two courses at the University of New Haven, where she has made the President’s List.  She is pursuing a degree in Public Administration.  Virginia is also actively involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.  She was elected Third Vice President of the CT NAACP State Conference from 2003-2005.  She is currently the State Secretary of the CT NAACP State Conference.

Donald Pitkin was re-elected to East Hartford Town Council—Minority Leader.  He was also elected as Moderator to his church.  He is a board member for Friends of East Hartford Senior Center and East Hartford Exchange Club.  He is a member of East Hartford Rotary Club.  He serves East Hartford’s Sixth Grade Academy as Historian Roundtable Member.  Recently, Don was awarded the MCC Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award.  He hopes to return to MCC this fall.

Jamie Lynn Christensen is currently attending the University of Tampa and will graduate with a B.A. in Communication this May. Since transferring, she has been exploring new media art and technologies and has found a new passion. This semester she is working with Juliet Davis and fellow students on a new media art piece highlighting women in the U.S. and their views on “veiling”. Some of her artwork has been displayed at the campus. After graduating, she plans on coming back to Connecticut and pursuing a career that scratches her creative itch.

Elizabeth Gerhard is employed as a recovery specialist at the Recovery and Empowerment Center with Chrysalis Center, Inc. in Hartford. She advocates for people in recovery from prolonged psychiatric disabilities and isolation.  She also provides staff support for the People for Empowerment & Recovery Stand and Unite Advocacy Committee, serves on the Chrysalis Center member's newsletter committee, and teaches computer skills classes. She recently was elected to the State of CT National Alliance on Mental Illness Board of Directors.  Elizabeth and her husband, Mark, will celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary in November.

Winthrop Porter, also a 1992 and 2001 MCC graduate, stopped going to college for the first time since 1985.  After 20 years, he has earned a second Bachelor’s degree (from Central Connecticut State University) and five associate degrees from MCC, all in data processing, computer information systems, and computer technology.  He now plans to enjoy his retirement.

She was active in student life, attending various sporting events as well as volunteering for Nashville Adult Literacy Program. She also interned at an independent jazz label, called 335 Records. Ashley is currently living in Connecticut, looking for employment.
