Excursions in Learning
for Children
Mission Statement
MCC's youth programs strive to take a leadership role in gifted education and enrichment programming; to be an educational and community resource for the 15 towns in the college's service area and beyond; and to collaborate with schools, cultural institutions and community groups in educational endeavors. These programs currently include a Spring Excursions in Learning held on consecutive Saturday mornings throughout February, and several summer programs during July and August: Junior Culinary Camp, Technology Camp, Adventures in Leadership, and Summer Excursions in Learning.
Excursions' instructors are experienced professionals and certified teachers and include artists, musicians, museum educators and media specialists. Several of MCC's own faculty and staff also teach in the program. More than 70% of the instructors have taught in the program for three or more years.
For more than 20 years, Excursions in Learning has offered on-site, educational programming for children completing kindergarten through eighth grade.
About Our Program
- The Spring Excursions Program offers more than 30 different courses and is held on Saturday mornings throughout February.

Junior Culinary Camp is a one-week, full-day, summer program in which students who have completed grades 5-8 learn about healthy eating, and prepare a variety of recipes in MCC's professional kitchens. There are two identical sessions.

- Summer Excursions, our most popular program, is designed for gifted, talented and high-achieving students. Approximately 40 high-interest courses in creative writing, visual and performing arts, world cultures, math and sciences, art, and technology are offered during the first two weeks of August.

- Technology Camp features two different one-week, full-day sessions for students completing grades 6-8: Engineer This and Engineer That.

- Adventures in Leadership is a one-week program that uses Manchester’s Ropes Course facility to build team and leadership skills for students completing grades 5-7.
Note: Excursions in Learning programs are always changing and expanding their offerings. Check out some of our previous offerings listed under "catalogs" for Excursions in Learning.
