Jewish Women in American Sport: Settlement Houses to the Olympics
Location: GPA Community Commons
Film Screening/Discussion led by Dr. Linda J. Borish, Ph.D. highlighting the important roles Jewish women played in American sports. From pioneers such as Senda Berenson, who authored the first women's guide to basketball to modern day Olympians, this film traces their history, contributions, and hard fought struggles against Anti-Semitism and gender bias. Professor Borish will discuss research she conducted for the film, including Hartford resources and American sport in historical context.

POSTPONED - 3rd Annual Veterans Scholarship Fundraiser

This year’s fundraiser will be a combined charity bike ride (option of 30mi or 60mi tour), “Le Tour de Valor” and a “5K Run/Walk”. Participants will have the option to choose which event to participate in and tickets are noted accordingly.
Manchester Community College is home to over 350 military service members. The funds raised will be used to assist with educational expenses (including tuition and books).

49th Commencement Ceremony
Location: Bicentennial Band Shell
The 49th Commencement Exercises will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. sharp, at the Bicentennial Band Shell, on the campus lawn. The commencement speaker will be Dr. Henry C. Lee, one of the world's foremost forensic scientists. Dr. Lee's work has made him a landmark in modern-day criminal investigations. He has been a prominent player in many challenging cases of the last 50 years. Dr. Lee has worked with law enforcement agencies in helping to solve more than 8000 cases.

Gaslight Arkestra lists as musical influences the “Bitches Brew” era of Miles Davis, the more avant-garde years of John Coltrane, the funk jams of Medeski, Martin & Wood, the creativity of John Zorn, and, by virtue of the “Arkestra,” the explorations of Sun Ra; poet Stephen Campiglio joins the band to create Cross-Fluence.
