Program Director, Dental Assistant Program (Community College Professional 19)
11-Month, Tenure Track Position
ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE:
June 2012
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:
Master’s Degree in Education, Allied Health or a related field required. Candidate must be a Certified Dental Assistant with a minimum of two years’ experience as a chair side assistant in general dentistry. College level teaching experience, including experience with technology as a teaching tool, in the relevant subject matter required. Experience as a supervisor and experience in the administration of a CODA accredited dental assistant program including the writing and defending of accreditation reports strongly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills; an understanding of the mission of the community college and a demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies, and involvement in support of a culturally and ethnically diverse population are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Director is responsible for program development and accreditation; faculty selection and professional development; instructional quality; administration and resource management; budget and fiscal management; and program evaluation and assessment, including national accreditation of the program through the Commission on Dental Assisting (CODA). Specifically, the Program Director will supervise clinical instruction in Dental Assisting and teach lecture, laboratory and clinical courses; write and defend accreditation reports; develop, revise and evaluate curriculum; schedule classes; hire, supervise and evaluate part time and clinical faculty; recruit and interview program applicants; purchase of program equipment; coordinate students’ clinical sites; assess student performance; and advise students academically. In addition, the director will serve on college-wide committees and other responsibilities related to a full-time professional in the community college system.
MINIMUM SALARY:
$57,395 approximate annual.
