Experience and Training:

Applicant must have four years of experience in electrical with two years of experience performing skilled trade functions in commercial electrical applications, college campus experience is preferred.  Incumbents are required to possess and retain an E1 electrical license.  Applicant must have a combination of experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job as stated below; considerable knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in electrical trades; considerable knowledge of relevant State and National codes and regulations; interpersonal skills; communication skills; computer skills; DDC computer skills; ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches; supervisory ability; project management and coordination ability.  

An understanding of the mission of the community college is essential.

Hours:

37.5 hours per week, Full time, 1st shift – Monday – Friday; 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Duties Include:

ELECTRICAL:  Performs highly skilled tasks in accordance with national and local codes and standard trade practices; lays out and installs electrical conduit for power and lighting; makes repairs to electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels, lights, light fixtures, power circuits, ventilating fans, intercommunication systems and electrical generators; installs open and concealed wiring; maintains and repairs unit heaters, fans, buildings maintenance machines and equipment, refrigeration units, diesel electric generators, fire alarm systems, building management control systems; life safety systems etc.; repairs relays and switches; rewinds motors; bends pipes; installs, repairs and maintains oil and gas burners; performs pole work; diagnose failures and repairs, and executes repairs; drilling and patching to facilitate installations; performs necessary safety testing of electrical equipment and keeps required records; evaluates equipment and furniture electrical installation requirements and installs electrical for equipment and furniture; may assist in high voltage work. Manages and coordinates in house projects; environmental reporting; service contracts; contractors and vendors; construction contractors; and develops energy saving programs.  May supervise maintenance staff on projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

Incumbents in this class must have adequate strength, stamina, and physical agility, visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform duties.  A physical examination may be required.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENT:

In addition to the checking of reference and of facts stated in the application a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for permanent appointment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate weight and to use protective equipment such respirators and safety goggles, and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment, extreme weather conditions and/ or environmental conditions.

SALARY:

$47,436 - $61,166
