“Drama’s Role in Lifelong Learning”
Dr. Zotos (“Z”) began exploring the various types of learning fostered by drama class activities after realizing that few of the students in his classes were interested in being trained for careers in the theatre; indeed, few would even take a theatre course in college. What then, beyond the skills of the theatre, did they hope to gain from taking a drama class? And what, in fact, did they gain through theses experiences? Join Z as he explains how drama activities can teach all of us much more than how to carry a spear on stage.

“Build a Play”- Hartbeat Ensemble
Hartbeat Ensemble is a professional community theatre, established in 2001 by its co-founders Gregory Tate, Julia Rosenblatt, and Steve Ginsburg. Its mission is to create original professional theatre about issues relevant to the people of Hartford and beyond. By bringing audiences together past the barriers of gender, class and race, the group inspires individuals toward meaningful social change. Based on the work of Arturo Boal, four actors will use audience response to create scenes and even give individuals the chance to be spect-actors as well as spect-ators.

Elizabeth Thomas, poet, founder of UpWords Poetry
