Join our FIRST Program

  • FIRST offers convenient schedules for students testing into ENG* 066, 093 and 101. Enjoy the benefits of a cohort-designed program, additional support and a specialized orientation.
  • You can enroll in the FIRST Program following assessment testing, at the time you attend your New Student Seminar. Only 70 students will be accepted into the program this spring.

F.I.R.S.T. Mission

Manchester Community College is committed to providing students in the FIRST Program with the support needed to have a successful first semester through the use of the learning community model.


FIRST Schedule Options

There will be three cohort groups of FIRST Program students. The class schedules for these cohorts occur at prime times in the morning and early afternoon, which allows time for FIRST students to participate in engagement/leadership activities, or to work on- or off- campus, following your classes. Cohort groups are based on English placement.

The schedule for FIRST students placing into ENG* 066 is:

  • ENG* 066: Foundations for College Reading and Writing
    Monday and Wednesday, 12:30–3:20 p.m.
  • SD* 111: First Year Experience for College Success
    Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–12:20 p.m.
  • SOC* 100: Community Engagement
    Tuesday and Thursday, 12:30–1:50 p.m.

The schedule for FIRST students placing into ENG* 093 is:

  • ENG* 093: Introduction to College Reading and Writing
    Monday and Wednesday, 9:30–10:50 a.m.
  • MAT* 138: Intermediate Algebra Modeling
    Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00–3:20 p.m.
  • SD* 111: First Year Experience for College Success
    Monday and Wednesday, 12:30–1:50 p.m.
  • COM* 173: Public Speaking
    Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–12:20 p.m.

The schedule for FIRST students placing into ENG* 101 is:

  • ENG* 101: Composition
    Monday and Wednesday, 9:30–10:50 a.m.
  • MAT* 138: Intermediate Algebra
    Monday and Wednesday, 11:00 a.m.–12:20 p.m.
  • COM* 173: Public Speaking
    Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30–10:50 a.m.
  • HIS* 121: World Civilization
    Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–12:20 p.m.

New Student Orientation

Orientation is a key component in successfully beginning your college career, and is mandatory for FIRST students. Please reserve a date for orientation by emailing T.J. Barber, director of student activities, at tbarber@manchestercc.edu, or sign up online.
